Upgrading your golf cart to lithium is the single biggest performance and longevity improvement you can make — but only if you match the battery to your cart's voltage and your real-world range needs. This guide walks through choosing an Epoch LiFePO4 golf cart battery: lead-acid vs lithium, getting the voltage right for your Club Car, EZGO, or Yamaha, sizing capacity for range, and deciding between a complete kit, battery-only, or the modular GC2 system.
A traditional lead-acid golf cart pack is heavy, sags under load, and typically lasts only a few hundred cycles. An Epoch LiFePO4 golf cart battery changes the equation in four ways. Usable capacity: lithium delivers close to 100% of its rated amp-hours, where lead-acid should only be drawn down about halfway — so a lithium pack of the same nameplate goes much farther. Cycle life: LiFePO4 commonly lasts thousands of cycles versus a few hundred for lead-acid. Weight: a single lithium block replaces six heavy lead-acid batteries, dropping dozens of pounds and improving range and handling. Maintenance: no watering, no acid, no corrosion, and consistent power right down to empty.
Getting the voltage right is non-negotiable — it's set by your cart's motor and controller, not by preference.
36V covers many older carts, including legacy EZGO TXT and Club Car DS models. Epoch's 36V 105Ah LiMax complete kit is the straightforward lithium conversion here.
48V is the most common modern standard across Club Car, EZGO, and Yamaha. Epoch offers the widest range at 48V — from the compact 65Ah kit up through 105Ah, 150Ah, and the big 230Ah (11.04kWh) complete kit for maximum range.
72V is for performance and lifted carts that want more speed and torque; the Epoch 70.4V (72V) 105Ah complete kit is the conversion for those builds.
Epoch also sells cart-specific mounting brackets and charger port plugs for Club Car, EZGO, and Yamaha, so the battery drops in and wires up cleanly.
Amp-hours determine range. As a rule of thumb, more Ah at the same voltage means more distance per charge. A 48V 65Ah kit is plenty for a neighborhood or property cart doing short daily loops. Step up to 48V 105Ah for all-day community or resort use, and to 48V 150Ah or 230Ah if you run long routes, hills, or a heavier lifted cart with accessories. When you're unsure, size up one tier — you'll rarely regret the extra range, and lithium's light weight means the bigger pack doesn't bog the cart down.
Complete kit is the easiest path: it bundles the battery, a matched lithium charger, and the wiring/hardware you need to convert the cart in one purchase. This is the right choice for most owners.
Battery-only suits owners who already have a compatible Epoch lithium charger and just need the pack — for example, the 48V 105Ah battery-only option.
GC2 modular uses individual 48V GC2 lithium modules that drop into existing battery trays, letting you build or expand capacity module by module. It's a flexible route for custom or phased builds.
| Model | Voltage | Format | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| 36V 105Ah LiMax Kit | 36V | Complete kit | Older 36V carts (EZGO TXT, Club Car DS) |
| 48V 65Ah Kit | 48V | Complete kit | Short-range neighborhood carts |
| 48V 105Ah Kit | 48V | Complete kit | All-day community / resort use |
| 48V 150Ah Kit | 48V | Complete kit | Long routes, hills, accessories |
| 48V 230Ah Kit | 48V | Complete kit | Maximum range (11.04kWh) |
| 72V 105Ah Kit | 72V | Complete kit | Performance / lifted carts |
| 48V 30Ah / 60Ah GC2 | 48V | Modular module | Custom / phased tray builds |
For the majority of 48V carts, the Epoch 48V 105Ah complete kit hits the sweet spot of range, price, and simple installation. Going farther or carrying more? Step up to the 150Ah or 230Ah. On an older 36V cart, the 36V 105Ah kit is the clean conversion; for a lifted performance cart, the 72V 105Ah.
